Belgrade authorities destroy WWII German bomb in Palilula
A World War II German aerial bomb was successfully destroyed on-site in the Palilula municipality of Belgrade on Sunday, October 4. The bomb, an SC 250 model weighing approximately 250 kilograms with 130 kilograms of explosives, was discovered during construction work on Poincare Street.
Due to the presence of an active electrical detonator, authorities determined the device could not be safely transported to a remote location. The Ministry of Internal Affairs (MUP) executed a four-phase disposal operation involving over 350 personnel, including the Sector for Emergency Situations.
To ensure public safety, a mandatory evacuation was ordered for residents within a 150-meter radius, while those in a broader risk zone up to 200 meters were notified. Public transport lines in the area were also diverted. Minister of Internal Affairs Ivica Dačić oversaw the operation from the command center, noting the complexity of the task caused by the bomb's technical characteristics.
