Belgrade celebrates Afro Festival and 33rd BELEF summer festival
The Museum of African Art in Belgrade launched the Afro Festival 2026, the country's largest showcase of African culture. Over two days the program offered workshops for children and adults, lectures, an exhibition titled “Reci: Art – Waste as Resource,” and performances by artists from across Africa and the diaspora. Highlights included the traditional dance presentations from Angola, Eswatini and other nations, a live talk by Congo's ambassador Joseph Kalala Mulambe, and a closing concert by Les Amazones d'Africa.
A day later, the 33rd Belgrade Summer Festival (BELEF) opened on June 20 with a performance by the musical "Cigani lete u nebo" from the Terazije Theatre. Due to high demand, organizers expanded ticket sales. The festival runs through September 22, presenting more than 40 events such as concerts by the Helenia ensemble, a piano recital by Aleksandar Jovčić, a trio from Australia called Liaison, and a range of theater productions and children's programs across venues in the city.
