Belgrade City Assembly adopts 43 items amid calls for Mayor Šapić's dismissal
The Belgrade City Assembly has concluded a session where all 43 agenda items were adopted, including urban regulation plans, budget rebalances for 13 public enterprises, and a decision to modernize the tram system using EUROFIMA financing. Key administrative changes include an increase in the daily residence tax from 160 to 240 dinars and a shift to electronic voting for councilors.
However, the session was marked by significant political tension. Opposition members, including groups from Kreni-Promeni, Zeleno-levi front, and others, walked out of the assembly. They protested the refusal to debate an incident involving Mayor Aleksandar Šapić, who is accused of physically assaulting councilor Tatjana Mićić. Medical reports confirmed Mićić suffered a fractured nose and jaw.
In response to the incident, the Kreni-Promeni movement has officially submitted a request for an extraordinary session, signed by 41 councilors, to demand the dismissal of Mayor Šapić. If the request is successful, it could potentially trigger local elections in Belgrade.
