Belgrade court holds hearing for driver accused of fatal family crash
A preparatory hearing was held in the Belgrade Higher Court for 25-year-old Nikola Đokić, a Bosnian citizen accused of causing a fatal traffic accident in New Belgrade last October. Prosecutors allege that Đokić was driving an Audi A4 under the influence of alcohol and marijuana, traveling at high speeds and running a red light. The collision resulted in the immediate deaths of a three-member family and left another passenger seriously injured. The prosecution is seeking a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison and a driving ban.
In a separate legal matter in Bratunac, a local musician and videographer, Mehanović, is seeking damages following a violent assault by three minors in June 2023. While the attackers received social work supervision as a penalty due to their age, Mehanović is pursuing a civil lawsuit for serious physical injuries, including ruptured tendons and a lost tooth. The lawsuit includes the attackers' parents under rules of parental responsibility.
