Belgrade crime statistics show decline amid unsolved arson concerns

Official reports from the Belgrade Police Administration indicate a continuous decrease in the total number of criminal offenses in the city. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, 7,373 offenses were recorded in the first six months of 2026, accounting for approximately one-quarter of all crimes in Serbia. Authorities claim that all serious crimes against life and body, including heavy murders and attempted murders, have been solved, often linked to criminal group confrontations.

However, specific investigations remain opaque. The Higher Public Prosecutor's Office in Belgrade reported that since the beginning of the year, 14 cases were classified as heavy murder, six as attempted heavy murder, one as murder, and ten as attempted murder. Nineteen adult suspects have been processed in connection with these crimes.

Public concern persists regarding unsolved incidents and a pattern of nighttime violence. In New Belgrade, a fire on September 1st destroyed three cars and damaged seven others, yet more than twenty days later, the prosecutor's office has not provided information regarding the cause or any suspects. This follows a trend in Belgrade where dozens of vehicles have burned over the past year, often occurring late at night with limited follow-up from authorities despite available camera footage.
