Explosion in Pula kills woman and injures others

An explosion occurred in a private house in the Šijana settlement of Pula, Croatia, on the morning of 26 July 2026. A 71‑year‑old woman, who was alone at the time, suffered severe burns covering about 50 % of her body and suffered cardiac arrest. Despite more than 40 minutes of resuscitation and evacuation by a medical helicopter, she died from her injuries.

Police investigators arrived shortly after the blast and secured the scene. Early indications suggest the explosion may have been caused by a gas cylinder that was removed by firefighters during their response. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities collect evidence and assess the circumstances of the incident.
