Belgrade Halts Tender for Kalenić Market Reconstruction
The City of Belgrade’s Secretariat for Investments cancelled the public tender for the reconstruction and expansion of the Kalenić market. The decision, made under article 147 of the Public Procurement Law, cited that the received offers were unacceptable. Only one consortium bid arrived, submitted by a group of seven firms – Čelik Bački Jarak, Frigo Žika Ruma, Geo projekt Sremska Mitrovica, Promenada Sremska Mitrovica, Jadran Beograd, TVI Beograd and Zavod za zavarivanje Beograd – but the procurement commission found the documentation improperly completed, lacking the required price form, making the offer unverifiable.
The project, estimated at 2.36 billion dinars (about 24 million euros), was part of the city’s 2024 capital investment plan, with a budget of roughly 20 million euros. The tender had been announced on 26 May with a deadline of 20 July. The cancellation follows earlier statements by city officials that the market’s reconstruction, originally presented in 2019, would begin in early 2024.
