Belgrade pilot project introduces Braille menus in cafes
The Union of the Blind of Serbia and the hospitality chain ‘Kafeterija’ have launched a pilot project in Belgrade to improve accessibility for blind and visually impaired individuals. The initiative has introduced menus and drink lists in Braille at the ‘Kafeterija Magazin 1907’ location on Kralja Petra Street.
Milan Stošić, President of the Union of the Blind of Serbia, emphasized the psychological and practical importance of the project, noting that independent reading fosters equality and autonomy. He encouraged other companies, cultural institutions, and tourist organizations to follow this example to improve daily quality of life through small but concrete accessibility measures.
The project coincides with the 80th anniversary of the Union of the Blind of Serbia and the 55th anniversary of the ‘Dr. Milan Budimir’ Library for the Blind. The library provided technical expertise, including the use of specialized 170-gram paper required for high-quality Braille printing.
