Belgrade Prosecutor's Office addresses Vladimir Cvijan death case

The Higher Public Prosecutor's Office in Belgrade has issued a statement addressing what it describes as “malicious interpretations” regarding the death of lawyer and politician Vladimir Cvijan. The prosecution claims that certain media outlets and lawyers are attempting to mislead the public by suggesting Cvijan was murdered.

The Prosecutor's Office maintains that the case was reviewed in 2018, at which time a prosecutor concluded there was no suspicion of a criminal offense and subsequently archived the file. The office reiterated that Cvijan died due to drowning while in a state of intoxication.

In its response, the prosecution emphasized that in professional terminology, the term “violent death” is used for any non-natural death, including suicide. It stated that all actions were taken in accordance with the Criminal Procedure Code and condemned any attempts to manipulate the facts.
