Belgrade: Protesters dismantle ‘Chaciland’ camp after student election victory

Supporters of the opposition Student List dismantled the ‘Chaciland’ tent camp in Belgrade’s Pionir Park following their victory in the Serbian parliamentary elections. Citizens removed the camp's fencing and began dismantling tents that had been situated there since March 2025.

The unrest followed an admission of defeat by President Aleksandar Vučić, who stated, ‘It is clear that we lost these elections and that the Student List has won.’ Initial media reports indicate the Student List secured 141 mandates, compared to 103 for the ‘Aleksandar Vučić – United Serbia’ list.

Located in central Belgrade near the National Assembly and the presidency, the camp was established by supporters of the ruling Serbian Progressive Party as a counter-measure to student protests and university blockades. During its nearly 20-month existence, access to parts of the park was restricted.

Reports regarding fire at the site vary. While some outlets claim Student List supporters set tents ablaze, others report that one tent was ignited following the camp's destruction. Firefighters were dispatched to the scene, and there are currently no definitive reports on total damages or arrests.
