Belgrade reconstruction of Old Post Office to house new Archaeological Museum
Serbian Prime Minister Đuro Macut and Minister of Culture Nikola Selaković visited the construction site of the future Archaeological Museum in Belgrade. The project involves the reconstruction of the former Old Post Office building at Savski trg, an architectural landmark designed by Momir Korunović in a Serbian-Byzantine style that was destroyed during World War II.
The massive undertaking covers over 11,000 square meters and will house both the Archaeological Museum and two modern theater stages, intended to serve as a new cultural center for the city. Serbia has allocated nearly three billion dinars for the renovation. Officials expressed hope that the restored historic building will be completed within the next year.
