Belgrade seeks influence over Montenegro, claims professor

Slobodan Sadžakov, a professor at the University of Novi Sad, has raised concerns regarding political influence from Belgrade over Montenegro. In an interview, Sadžakov suggested that political and religious circles in Belgrade are seeking loyal executors to implement objectives that undermine Montenegrin sovereignty.

He identified the Serbian Orthodox Church as a significant political actor within the region, acting as a pillar for nationalist ideologies. Sadžakov noted a perceived division within the church hierarchy in Montenegro, contrasting the loyalty of Metropolitan Metodije to the authorities in Belgrade with the stance of Metropolitan Joanikije.
