Belgrade to conduct mosquito control operations across multiple locations
The Belgrade public utility company, JKP ‘Gradska čistoća’, is scheduled to conduct mosquito control operations across various locations in the city. The treatments, targeting adult mosquitoes on land and water surfaces, are set to take place between 3:30 and 7:00 AM.
Targeted areas include several residential settlements such as Banjica, Stepa Stepanović, and Kumodraž, as well as landmarks like Kalemegdan, Dorćol, and the Danube Quay. Other locations include the Progar embankment, Bojčinska forest, and various areas near the Sava river.
The effectiveness of the operation depends on weather conditions; treatments will only proceed if there is no rain and if temperatures and wind speeds are optimal. Officials noted that while rainy weather favors mosquito breeding, it hinders the application of the thermal and cold fogging preparations due to their thermolability.
Authorities have advised citizens to remove standing water from yards, such as in tires or flowerpot saucers, and to use repellents. Beekeepers are also urged to take necessary precautions to protect their hives during the spraying process. The products used are registered with the Ministry for Environmental Protection.
