Belgrade to Host XXI World Congress of Economists in June

From 22 to 26 June, Belgrade will host the XXI World Congress of Economists, the largest international gathering of economists ever organized in Serbia. The five‑day event will take place at the Sava Centre and is expected to draw around 1,000 participants from more than 80 countries, including leading scholars, policy makers, representatives of international organisations, central banks, governments, universities and the global business community.

The congress, organised by the International Economic Association and the Serbian Economists Union under the patronage of the Serbian government, will focus on "Contrasting Visions of the World: Globalisation vs Nationalism, Multilateralism vs Bilateralism and Democracy vs Autocracy". Nobel laureates Jean Tirole, Esther Duflo and Eric Maskin will speak, alongside prominent economists such as Dani Rodrik, Hélène Rey, David Autor and others. Serbian officials Sinisa Mali, the Vice‑President and Finance Minister, and Jorgovanka Tabaković, Governor of the National Bank, will take part in panels, and President Aleksandar Vučić is scheduled to address the opening ceremony.
