Belgrade–Budapest high‑speed rail line to open in two months

Acting director of Serbia's rail operator Srbija Voz, Ljubiša Pejičić, announced that the new high‑speed railway between Belgrade and Budapest is ready to commence service in roughly two months. New trainsets are already operating to Subotica and have performed well, positioning the operator to handle the anticipated increase in passengers.

The line will cut the journey to Budapest to about three hours and is part of a broader corridor linking Belgrade, Budapest and Vienna, with negotiations for the Belgrade‑Budapest‑Vienna route having begun in November 2025. Hungarian railway MAV has indicated that by 2026 the connection to Vienna will also be established. The opening is expected to boost passenger numbers and improve regional mobility.
