Beli Manastir hosts Largest Croatian Fish Festival
The ‘Largest Croatian Fish Festival’ (Najveća hrvatska fišijada) took place in Beli Manastir, drawing thousands of visitors and over 200 cooks. The event featured both the Croatian National Championship in cooking fish paprikaš and the Baranja Championship.
Kristijan Klajo from Lug secured first place in the national championship, followed by Danijel Keresteš in second and Dušan Jurić from Petraslavina in third. In the Baranja Championship, Danijel Keresteš took first place, with Ivan Mumlek (CB Lymar) in second and Aleksandar Beljić in third.
The festival serves as a significant driver for regional tourism. Osijek-Baranja County Prefect Nataša Tramišak noted that tourism in the area has grown by more than 11 percent, surpassing 100,000 arrivals by late August. Local officials emphasized that the event promotes the gastronomic, ecological, and ethnological heritage of the Baranja region.
