Belinda Kora identifies social media misinformation as major journalistic hurdle

Belinda Kora, secretary of the Media Council of Papua New Guinea (MCPNG) and founder of Women in Media, has identified social media misinformation as the primary challenge facing journalists today.

Speaking at the conclusion of an Election Integrity Workshop, Kora urged reporters to prioritize rigorous verification processes to combat unreliable content. The week-long program was organized by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in partnership with the European Union (EU) and the MCPNG. The workshop aimed to strengthen ethical and objective reporting in preparation for the 2027 elections.

Kora emphasized the importance of newsroom collaboration and professional networking, noting that verifying information before publication is essential to maintaining journalistic integrity in an era of viral, often unverified, digital content.
