Belinda to star in Prime Video miniseries about Florence Cassez case

Mexican singer and actress Belinda will star in and associate produce a new Amazon Prime Video miniseries based on the life of Florence Cassez. The project, developed in collaboration with Amazon MGM Studios, El Estudio, and Tigre Pictures, aims to portray one of the most controversial judicial cases in Mexican history.

The series will focus on the 2005 arrest of Cassez and Israel Vallarta, who were accused of leading the kidnapping gang ‘Los Zodiaco’. The case became a major international scandal due to a televised staging of the arrest that was later revealed to be a recreation, leading to significant diplomatic tensions between Mexico and France.

While Belinda expressed that the project is a career dream that she intends to approach with “sensitivity, honesty, and respect,” the announcement has met opposition from Ezequiel Elizalde, a victim of the Los Zodiaco group. Elizalde issued a statement via Radio Fórmula declaring that he does not authorize the use of his name or identifying information in the production and reserves the right to take legal action.

The production features Daniel Krauze as head writer and Humberto Hinojosa as director. A release date has not been finalized, though some reports suggest a window between 2027 and 2030.
