Belinga mining project central to Gabon's Ogooué-Ivindo economic forum
The inaugural Ogooué-Ivindo economic forum was held in Makokou, Gabon, focusing on the theme of mining infrastructure and economic transformation. A central point of discussion was the Belinga mining project, which is viewed as a catalyst for a new industrial era and a driver for the country's economic diversification.
During the forum, Edward Kalajzic, Director General of Fortescue Belinga, presented the progress of the mining project and the long-term vision of the group. He noted that the project has the potential to support Gabon's economic diversification. The project is backed by the financial strength of the Fortescue group, which reported an underlying net profit of $3.5 billion for the 2025 fiscal year.
Gabonese officials emphasized the state's role in creating a supportive business, institutional, and fiscal environment to encourage private investment. Additionally, the Bank for Commerce and Entrepreneurship of Gabon (BCEG) is establishing a presence in the Ogooué-Ivindo province to provide structural and financial support for local development and youth entrepreneurship.
