Belisario Aponte Gymnasium reopens in Maracaibo for volleyball championship
Zulia Governor Luis Caldera has officially reopened the Pedro Elías Belisario Aponte Gymnasium in Maracaibo following a comprehensive renovation. The facility, which had not undergone integral maintenance in 16 years, has been modernized to serve as the primary venue for the South American Women's U19 Volleyball Championship, held from October 7 to 12.
The renovation project, executed by the regional government in coordination with the Ministry of Sport, included the installation of a 360-ton chiller air conditioning system supported by a 750 kVA transformer to ensure stable power supply. Other structural improvements included new internal and external lighting, structural painting, replacement of electrical wiring, and the restoration of the sports flooring.
Additional upgrades were made to the locker rooms, physiotherapy rooms, administrative offices, and an academic module for physical education students. The project also extended to the surrounding areas, including the rehabilitation of the Néstor Quiroz and Julio Abreu courts, as well as the landscaping of the perimeter areas.
