Belize bus operators avert service shutdown over diesel costs
The Belize Bus Association (BBA) has announced that its members will postpone a planned service disruption, providing the government more time to address rising diesel costs. The association had previously warned that soaring fuel prices, following the expiration of a fuel subsidy, were making operations unsustainable.
The Minister of Transport has requested additional time to prepare a Cabinet paper, which is scheduled to be tabled for consideration on September 1, 2026. BBA members agreed to the delay in the interest of citizens who rely on public transportation, though they are seeking a definitive solution from the Cabinet next month.
