Belize City Moves to Revise Liquor Licensing Rules

A public consultation on liquor licensing reforms was held at the House of Culture in Belize City. Programs Manager Michael Fritz said the meeting is part of a national review of the Liquor License Act aimed at standardising licences and addressing issues such as noise, opening hours and licence categories.

Mayor Bernard Wagner noted that the city council will not approve new liquor licences near schools or places of worship, though existing licences may be grandfathered. Residents highlighted concerns about bars and clubs operating close to schools, noise complaints and a recent shooting near the Chill Spot on Bayman, stressing the need for stronger enforcement of any new rules.
