Belize evaluates potential Maya Train expansion
Prime Minister John Briceño confirmed that the government of Belize is currently analyzing a possible extension of the Maya Train into Belize and Guatemala. The project is in the study phase to determine its technical and economic viability.
During recent discussions with Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum, officials explored options for the railway system to improve regional connectivity. The proposed extension could facilitate both passenger and cargo transport, potentially boosting tourism and commercial exchange between southeastern Mexico and Central America.
At this stage, no specific routes, timelines, or estimated costs have been established. The decision to proceed depends on the results of feasibility studies conducted by Belizean authorities.
