Belize expands electric vehicle use in public transport
Belize is expanding its electric vehicle presence in the public transportation sector through new bus and taxi initiatives.
The Belize City Council is seeking bids to expand its ‘E-Ride’ service following a successful pilot program. E-Transit Coordinator Neil Hall noted that the electric buses have seen high demand, often reaching capacity during rush hours. The council aims to add four more buses to the fleet to reach new routes and areas, highlighting the benefits of the low-floor, noiseless, and pollution-free vehicles for commuters and passengers with disabilities.
Simultaneously, E-VOLUTION Ltd. has launched an ‘E-Taxi Program’ to introduce electric vehicles into the taxi industry. The program offers taxi operators the option of using either electric cars or seven-seater vans. To assist drivers who may struggle to secure traditional financing, the company provides structured payment plans, including options for down payments and weekly installments.
