Belize government provides $800,000 in fertilizer to citrus growers

The Government of Belize has provided approximately $800,000 worth of fertilizer to support the citrus industry. Agriculture, Food Security and New Growth Industries Minister Rodwell Ferguson handed over 9,150 bags of fertilizer to the Citrus Growers’ Association (CGA) at its headquarters in Pomona, Stann Creek.

The assistance aims to help the sector recover from the impacts of citrus greening, a disease that has significantly affected production and tree health in recent years. CGA Chairman Ecclestone Irving noted that growers had been eagerly anticipating the supplies to help maintain groves and improve output.

The fertilizer was distributed immediately to association members to assist in rebuilding the sector, which remains a vital source of employment and economic contribution to Belize.
