Bell Boeing and U.S. military plan to sustain V-22 Osprey fleet beyond 2055
Bell Boeing and the V-22 Joint Program Office (PMA-275) are implementing a long-term strategy to sustain the V-22 Osprey fleet beyond the year 2055. To support this goal, the initiative has integrated 14 new companies into the supply chain to expand the industrial base and technical expertise available for the program.
A recent Team Osprey Working Group meeting included approximately 200 participants, representing seven U.S. government agencies, six allied nations, and more than 35 defense, engineering, and manufacturing suppliers. The group focused on increasing spare parts availability, improving component reliability, and pursuing technical modernization.
Colonel Robert Hurst, the PMA-275 program manager, stated that synchronizing the global supply chain and integrating innovations will increase material availability on the flight line. This effort is critical for maintaining the rapid expeditionary lift and logistical flexibility required by commanders in high-threat environments.
The V-22 Osprey serves several vital roles, including acting as the U.S. Marine Corps’ core tactical medium-lift aircraft and supporting U.S. Navy Carrier Onboard Delivery missions. It also provides long-range support for U.S. Special Operations Command and Air Force Special Operations Command.
