Bell Shakespeare to tour Macbeth across Australia

Bell Shakespeare is launching a touring production of Macbeth across Australia, beginning in September. Directed by artistic director Peter Evans, the production features Anthony Taufa in the title role and Matilda Ridgway as Lady Macbeth.

This reimagining of the classic play is set in the post-WWI era, utilizing themes of spiritualism and seances to create a dreamlike atmosphere of hallucinations and visions. Evans noted that his interpretation focuses on Macbeth’s internal struggle with his conscience and the loss of humanity rather than portraying him as a simple sociopath.

The tour will travel through regional areas including Wagga Wagga, Orange, and Dubbo, before concluding with a season at the Sydney Opera House.
