Bella Italia campsite fire in Peschiera del Garda injures 24 people

A major fire broke out at the Bella Italia campsite in Peschiera del Garda, located on the southern shore of Lake Garda, in the early hours of Sunday, October 4. The blaze, which began shortly before 6:00 AM while many guests were sleeping, rapidly spread through the facility, destroying or damaging approximately 20 to 30 mobile homes and bungalows, as well as several vehicles.

At least 24 people were injured in the incident. Among the victims was a German tourist suffering from third-degree burns, who remained hospitalized. Other casualties included a Swiss family and several individuals treated for smoke inhalation. Four firefighters from the Dietzenbach Volunteer Fire Department in Germany, who were vacationing at the site, were credited with assisting in the initial evacuation and fire suppression before local emergency services arrived.

Eyewitnesses reported hearing loud explosions, likely caused by gas cylinders, which they described as sounding “like war.” The rescue and firefighting efforts were complicated by the presence of LPG gas cylinders and parked cars throughout the campsite. Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the fire, though police stated that arson is not currently suspected.
