Bella Ramsey stars in ‘Sunny Dancer’ coming-of-age film
The film ‘Sunny Dancer’, directed by George Jaques, is a coming-of-age story centered on Ivy, a 17-year-old girl in remission from cancer. Despite being physically healthy for ten months, Ivy struggles with emotional paralysis and social inadequacy caused by her experience with the illness.
To help her regain a sense of normalcy, her parents send her to a month-long summer camp called ‘Children Run Free’ (CRF). The camp is designed to help young survivors reclaim the carefree nature of adolescence. The film features Bella Ramsey in the lead role, alongside Neil Patrick Harris, who plays Patrick, a camp leader dealing with his own personal loss.
Jaques, who previously directed ‘Black Dog’, utilizes a warm tone and humor to approach the heavy subject matter, focusing more on the characters' vital instincts and social development than on the clinical details of their diagnoses.
