Bellambi man sentenced for violent attack on Uber driver

Paul Phillip Kidd, 44, has been sentenced by the Wollongong Local Court following a violent attack on an Uber driver in Bellambi. Kidd pleaded guilty to the offending, which occurred in the early hours of February 7, 2026.

During the ride, a heavily intoxicated Kidd reportedly tampered with the vehicle's internal safety camera. After the driver attempted to cancel the trip due to Kidd's behavior, the offender threatened the driver, stating, “The trip is not over, I will end you.”

Kidd attempted to interfere with the driver's emergency call and tried to seize the vehicle keys, which the driver eventually threw out of the window. Kidd then launched a “barrage of punches” through the car window, striking the driver in the shoulder. Following the assault, Kidd fled into nearby bushland before being apprehended by police.
