Belle Burden’s memoir ‘Strangers’ to be adapted by Netflix
Belle Burden, a Harvard-educated lawyer, has seen her memoir ‘Strangers’ become a major literary success following the sudden collapse of her twenty-year marriage. The book grew from a viral essay in the New York Times ‘Modern Love’ column, which detailed how Burden learned of her husband’s infidelity through an anonymous voicemail.
After receiving news of the affair, Burden’s husband abruptly decided to end the marriage, leaving their Manhattan apartment, summer home, and three children. The memoir explores the emotional devastation of having a long-term partnership dismissed as an ‘emotional mistake.’
Due to its popularity, Netflix has acquired the rights to the story, with plans for a film adaptation reportedly featuring Gwyneth Paltrow in the lead role.
