Belleville City Council to discuss Bell Creek preservation with developers
The Belleville City Council has voted to initiate discussions with the developers of the Hanley Park North project regarding potential options to preserve the Bell Creek natural heritage system.
Following public concerns about the environmental impact of the proposed 103-unit residential development, city staff will explore models such as land trusts or land swaps. A report by the Manager of Realty and Property Services noted that any land exchange would require a comprehensive evaluation to ensure a net benefit to the municipality and to avoid legal or financial risks.
While some councillors supported the motion to gauge developer willingness, others expressed concern regarding the lack of specific parameters for such negotiations and the potential cost to taxpayers.
