Belleville synagogue receives antisemitic flyers after shooting

Antisemitic flyers were distributed throughout the east end of Belleville, Ontario, and at the Sons of Jacob synagogue. The synagogue's president, Norman Weddum, reported finding four different types of flyers that blamed Jewish people for various issues. Weddum noted that the scale of the distribution suggests multiple people were involved.

This incident follows a September 20 attack at the same location, which police described as a thwarted mass killing attempt during Yom Kippur. During that shooting, 29-year-old Sean Ward, a former Canadian Armed Forces corporal, opened fire on an officer. Constable Jeff Smith sustained multiple gunshot wounds while engaging the shooter but survived. Ward died in the hospital the following day. Police stated Ward was armed with multiple guns, large amounts of ammunition, and gasoline, indicating an intent to carry out an extended attack.
