Bellinzona trial begins for alleged 'Ndrangheta lieutenant in Switzerland
A trial has opened in Bellinzona before the Federal Criminal Court for a 59-year-old man accused of acting as a key logistical and financial intermediary for the Calabrian 'Ndrangheta mafia in Switzerland.
Prosecutors allege the defendant provided a base for the criminal organization for nearly two decades. His alleged activities include facilitating the import of cocaine and hashish from Italy into multiple Swiss cantons, as well as using Switzerland as a hub for the arms trade to supply weapons for mafia-related violence.
Furthermore, the defendant is accused of laundering at least 1.3 million francs by transporting the funds to Italy via car and plane to support the 'Ndrangheta's operations in Calabria. During the proceedings, the accused declined to offer new testimony, instead referring to statements previously made to the Office of the Attorney General.
