Bellocchi industrial zone air monitoring concerns raised
Francesco Panaroni, a municipal councilor for the Five Star Movement in Fano, has raised concerns regarding the lack of environmental monitoring in the Bellocchi industrial zone. The area is one of the most significant industrial hubs in the Marche region, with various industries contributing to atmospheric emissions.
Since 2015, an agreement between ARPAM, the Municipality of Fano, the Marche Region, and the company Profilglass allowed for the use of a relocatable monitoring station. This station was capable of real-time detection of PM10 and nitrogen dioxide, as well as the subsequent analysis of five metals: aluminum, lead, arsenic, cadmium, and nickel.
Panaroni noted that the monitoring station has not been operational since 2019. This cessation has resulted in data gaps, leaving both the local population and competent authorities without essential information to manage environmental emergencies or assess risks to public health.
