Belluno migration trends show rise in youth repatriation

The October 2026 issue of the magazine ‘Bellunesi nel mondo’, published by the Associazione Bellunesi nel Mondo (ABM), examines contemporary migration trends and the demographic landscape of the Belluno province.

A primary focus is the increasing number of young Italians returning from abroad. Data from the Fondazione Studi dei Consulenti del Lavoro and CNEL indicates that between 2021 and 2025, 129,000 individuals aged 18 to 39 returned to Italy. This represents a 32.9% increase compared to the previous five-year period, shifting the ratio of returns to departures from 26 per 100 to 40 per 100.

The publication also reviews the labor market in the Veneto region and Belluno. In the second quarter of 2026, 1,126 new jobs were recorded, showing stability compared to the previous year. While the tourism sector remains a major employer, it relies heavily on fixed-term contracts, and the industrial sector shows improvement driven by construction.

Additionally, the issue notes that as of December 31, 2025, there were approximately 6.6 million Italian citizens residing abroad, according to Istat data. The magazine also commemorates the 60th anniversary of the ABM.
