Bienal Internacional do Livro de São Paulo hosts major literary event
The 28th Bienal Internacional do Livro de São Paulo is currently underway at Distrito Anhembi, running from September 4 to 13, 2026. As the largest literary event in Latin America, it occupies 86,000 square meters and features approximately 269 to 279 exhibitors. The event expects to host between 700,000 and 800,000 visitors.
The programming includes 3,450 hours of activities, featuring 350 national and international authors such as Itamar Vieira Junior, Alice Oseman, and Mia Couto. The fair offers various cultural experiences, including debates, autograph sessions, and specialized spaces covering genres from fantasy to young adult literature.
Sevani Matos, president of the Câmara Brasileira do Livro (CBL), noted the positive economic impact of the sector, highlighting an 8% increase in book consumption among the Brazilian population aged 18 and older. This growth is driven largely by the young adult genre and coloring books. The event also introduces a cashback system for ticket holders to use on book purchases and includes the 'Vale-Livro' initiative in partnership with the São Paulo City Hall.
