Manaus police arrest man for two attempted murders of businessman

A 24-year-old man has been arrested in the Compensa neighborhood of Manaus, Amazonas, on suspicion of attempting to murder a 47-year-old businessman on two separate occasions.

According to the Amazonas Civil Police, the motive is linked to a homicide that occurred in March of this year involving Marcelo Lauro Aguiar Fernandes. Investigators believe the suspect targeted the businessman because he might be a witness to that previous killing.

The first attempt took place on August 5, when the victim was struck by gunfire while at his auto parts store. The second attempt occurred on September 9, when a vehicle blocked the victim's car while he was with his wife and daughter. During the second attack, the businessman was shot in the abdomen and thigh but managed to disarm the assailant and fire a shot that hit the suspect in the face.

The suspect was located and arrested at a relative's home. He is currently awaiting a custody hearing.
