Belém ITBI Discount Ends July 31, 2026, Cutting Property Transfer Tax by Half

The Belém municipal government, through the Secretaria Municipal de Finanças (Sefin), is offering a temporary 50% discount on the Imposto de Transmissão de Bens Imóveis (ITBI) for owners who have purchased or inherited property but have not yet registered the transfer. The benefit, established by Municipal Law 10.308/2026, reduces the standard 3% rate to 1.5% and also waives interest and fines on older, unregularized transmissions. The deadline to take advantage of the discount is 31 July 2026; after that date the full rate will resume.

Finance Secretary Marcos Matos urged residents not to wait until the last days, noting the opportunity to save up to 50% on a tax that can amount to several thousand reais for a typical transaction. Applications can be submitted online via Sefin’s portal or in person at designated service points.
