Belém police probe possible serial killings of two professors

In the Marambaia district of Belém, Brazil, two male teachers were found dead within a 48‑hour span. The first victim, 53‑year‑old biology professor and veterinarian Paulo Paiva, was discovered on Sunday inside his home in the Conjunto Médici complex. The second, 55‑year‑old Portuguese language professor Augusto César Siqueira, was found two days later in a nearby unit of Conjunto Médici II.

Both murders share several details: the victims were of similar age, used a LGBTQ‑focused dating app to arrange meetings, and were seen with a man shortly before the killings. Security‑camera footage captured a male visitor leaving each residence in the early hours, and forensic teams collected fingerprints, biological traces and other evidence. Police have not confirmed a link between the two cases, but the similarities have raised the hypothesis of a serial offender. Investigations continue under the direction of the Pará Civil Police homicide division, focusing on identifying the man captured on camera and determining whether the crimes are connected.
