Belém begins 243rd Círio de Nazaré religious festivities
The 243rd edition of the Círio de Nazaré has officially commenced in Belém, Pará. The festivities opened with a solemn mass at the Basilica Sanctuary of Nazaré, presided over by Archbishop Dom Julio Endi Akamine, followed by the ‘Bendito Encontro’ musical show.
Preparations for the religious event include a pilgrimage of the ‘Imagem Peregrina’ through several municipalities in Greater Belém, visiting schools, hospitals, and public institutions. Devotees are also preparing for high temperatures, with meteorologists warning that the El Niño phenomenon could lead to heat sensations reaching 40°C during the processions.
Beyond religious devotion, the period serves as a significant cultural and economic platform. The Lambateria Festival is celebrating its 10th anniversary, highlighting Latin-Amazonian rhythms. Additionally, the event is driving growth in the regional bioeconomy, providing visibility to female entrepreneurs using sustainable Amazonian raw materials.
