Belén Álvarez Maddiona seeks to defend national karate title

Argentine karateka Belén Álvarez Maddiona is preparing to defend her national title at the Copa Inouye in Río Grande, Tierra del Fuego. The 36-year-old athlete, who aims to qualify for the 2025 World Championships in Japan, faces the challenge of adapting from the warm climate of Misiones to the extreme cold of the southern region.

Álvarez Maddiona noted that the logistical and economic hurdles for amateur athletes are significant. Due to travel costs, the Misiones delegation has been reduced to only two representatives for this competition, compared to nearly 30 participants in the previous edition held in Chaco. She is currently seeking sponsors to support her athletic career.
