Belo Horizonte announces infrastructure and carnival preparations
Belo Horizonte is advancing preparations for both its tourism infrastructure and the 2027 Carnival season. The city government has installed a promotional countdown totem in Praça Rui Barbosa to mark the 100-day countdown to the 2027 festivities, which are scheduled to run from January 23 to February 14.
In a separate development, the Mercado Central de Belo Horizonte will undergo a R$ 2.5 million infrastructure modernization. Funded by the Banco de Desenvolvimento de Minas Gerais (BDMG) through a specialized tourism credit line, the project focuses on upgrading the electrical network, which has not seen significant investment in 23 years. The improvements aim to support the 400 shops within the market and accommodate the approximately 15 million visitors the site receives, serving as part of a broader plan leading up to the market's centenary in 2029.
