Brazil courts issue various sentences for violent crimes

Various judicial rulings across Brazil have resulted in significant prison sentences for a range of violent crimes.

In Belo Horizonte, Samuel Paixão de Souza was sentenced to 67 years for a 2021 attack on a supporters' bus that killed one person and injured several others. In Altamira, Cleyton Oliveira Gomes received 34 years and six months for the kidnapping, sexual abuse, and murder of a five-year-old girl.

Other notable convictions include a man sentenced to nearly 30 years for child abuse in Santa Catarina, and two men in Mato Grosso receiving over 30 years for an execution linked to a criminal faction. In São Paulo, Silvio Luiz Dessordi was sentenced to 10 years and six months for the death of a motorcyclist following a traffic dispute.

Additional rulings addressed domestic violence, including a 28-year sentence for a former police officer in Rio de Janeiro for the murder of his ex-wife, and a 12-year sentence in the Distrito Federal for an attempted homicide involving an ex-mother-in-law. In Joinville, a court fined parents for failing to ensure the school attendance of a child with Down syndrome.
