Belo Horizonte hosts 13th International Comics Festival

The 13th edition of the International Comics Festival (FIQ) is taking place in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, running through November 8. Themed “Paths of reading: comics and citizenship,” the event is recognized as the largest festival of its kind in Latin America.

The festival features approximately 400 professionals from 25 Brazilian states and seven different countries. Highlights include the “Free Comics Day,” which involves the distribution of 3,000 free copies, and the launch of the graphic novel adaptation of Itamar Vieira Junior’s award-winning work, “Torto Arado,” illustrated by Bennê Oliveira and Rafael Calça.

Other scheduled activities include the “24-hour Comics Challenge,” where 15 selected artists create a 24-page comic live within a glass enclosure. Additionally, artists from Tocantins, such as Pablo Marquinho and Álvaro Maia, are participating in debates and autograph sessions to showcase regional productions.
