Belo Horizonte implements new urban regulations and infrastructure updates

Belo Horizonte is implementing several municipal updates involving infrastructure, public safety, and urban regulation. Mayor Álvaro Damião has sanctioned laws to rename public spaces in honor of local figures: a viaduct in the Belvedere neighborhood will be named after influencer Henrique Maderite, and an ecozone in Santa Tereza will be named after architect and urban mobility activist Eveline Prado Trevisan.

Regarding public safety and traffic, the city has reactivated 141 speed radars across 13 major avenues to reduce traffic accidents. Additionally, the City Council has approved the first reading of a bill that prohibits unauthorized vehicle watchers, known as ‘flanelinhas’, from operating on public streets. The proposed law includes a fine of R$ 1,000 for those who approach or charge drivers for parking surveillance, with penalties doubling for repeat offenders.
