Belo Horizonte maintains status as Brazil's bar capital
A recent study by the Brazilian Association of Bars and Restaurants (Abrasel) confirms Belo Horizonte as the national leader in traditional bars. The city maintains a significant lead in the 'traditional boteco' category, recording 111.9 establishments per 100,000 inhabitants, surpassing Florianópolis and Vitória.
While Belo Horizonte holds the highest overall density of bars per square kilometer, it ranks second nationally in the category of bars featuring entertainment, such as live music and dance floors, trailing behind Florianópolis. The study utilized data from the Federal Revenue Service and the 2022 IBGE Census to distinguish between different economic activity codes.
In related cultural developments, the city has inaugurated the 'Casa do Carnaval' in its downtown area. This 2,000-square-meter facility is designed to support the logistics and professionalization of street carnival blocks, providing infrastructure for rehearsals and meetings following the exponential growth of the city's carnival celebrations.
