Belo Horizonte Metro Line 2 enters second phase of construction

Construction of Line 2 of the Belo Horizonte Metro has entered its second phase, connecting the Barreiro region to Nova Suíça. Current works are focused on preparing the ground, earthmoving, and foundations for three future stations: Nova Cintra, Vista Alegre, and Nova Gameleira.

Project director Júlio Freitas stated that this section is expected to be delivered by the end of next year. The full Line 2 is projected to be operational by the first half of 2028, expanding the metro network to approximately 41 kilometers. Once complete, the line is estimated to transport between 150,000 and 170,000 passengers daily. The total investment for the project is estimated at R$ 3.7 billion, funded by the federal government, the state of Minas Gerais, and the concessionaire.
