Belo Horizonte: Motorcyclist dies in storm-driven flood
A 23-year-old motorcyclist died in Belo Horizonte after being swept away by a flash flood and becoming trapped in a storm drain. The incident occurred on Monday night in the Camargos neighborhood during a severe storm characterized by heavy rain, hail, and strong winds.
Emergency responders from the Fire Department and Military Police recovered the victim from the drainage structure, where his leg had become stuck. Despite performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation, authorities confirmed he had no vital signs. Local residents attempted to assist, but the strength of the current prevented a safe rescue.
The storm prompted multiple alerts from the Civil Defense, warning of wind gusts up to 60 km/h and potential hail. The heavy rainfall also caused fallen trees, flooding, and property damage across various regions of the capital.
