Belo Horizonte police investigated for allegedly planting drugs

A father and son, including a child counselor, have been released by the Minas Gerais Court of Justice following allegations that civil police officers planted drugs during a search and seizure operation in Belo Horizonte.

The incident occurred on August 7 in the Pampulha region. During the operation, officers seized a Glock 9mm pistol, ammunition, and a block of marijuana. However, images recorded during the operation raised suspicions regarding the origin of the drugs, leading to an investigation by the General Internal Affairs Office of the Civil Police.

As of mid-September, the investigation has resulted in the preventive arrest of one officer, while another officer was arrested earlier in the week. Two other agents remain at large. Judge Fernanda Chaves Carreira Machado revoked the preventive detention of the father and son, noting that while the investigation is ongoing, it is not yet possible to categorically confirm if the evidence was forged or if the operation was illegal.
